“Can you spray and dry hi-tech coatings onto fully-assembled underwing pods at low temperatures, whilst not affecting electronics inside?”
The answer was of course, yes!
The previous facility was outdated, had failed its last tests and the traditional hot air oven baked the coatings on, but affected the sensitive electronics inside the pods.
A new Schuberts finishing system was installed, where the pods were masked, then coated (primer, base and topcoated), flashed-off and dried in a Schubox CIR system. Film weights vary from 90 to 160 microns wet and the parts are flashed-off for 15 mins at ambient, before being put into the Schubox at 40c for 45 mins each time.
